About Aquaponics

Aquaponics is the name given to the method of combining both Aquaculture and Hydroponics in a symbiotic way.  In aquaponics you grow both fish and plants in the one unit. It works simply, the fish provide the food for the plants and the plants clean the water for the fish. This creates a sustainable ecosystem where both plants and fish can thrive. Water is only added to replace water loss from absorption by the plants or evaporation into the air.

  • The benefits of aquaponics are many:
  • Recycles and uses less water than ground crops
  • Free of chemicals and pesticides
  • No leaching of nutrients, no waste at all
  • Low in maintenance
  • Produces a large quantity of food in a small space
  • Comfortable working height
  • No digging or fertilizing
  • Clean and neat
  • Teach children how to grow food and care for living things
  • Inexpensive to run
  • Sustainable food production - Low food miles
  • Food Security
  • Environmentally friendly
